Power Integrations releases gallium nitride-based InnoSwitch3 AC-DC conversion

Power Integrations recently released InnoSwitch™ New member of series 3 constant voltage/constant current off-line flyback switching power supply IC. The new IC can provide 95% high efficiency over the entire load range and 100 W power output without using a heat sink in a closed adapter. This breakthrough performance improvement stems from the internally developed high voltage gallium nitride switching technology.

InnoSwitch3 in quasi-resonant mode-CP, InnoSwitch3-EP and InnoSwitch3- Pro IC integrates primary circuit, secondary circuit and feedback circuit in a surface mount package. In the newly released series of devices, gallium nitride switch replaces the conventional high voltage silicon transistor of IC primary, which can reduce the conduction loss during current flow and greatly reduce the switching loss during operation. This ultimately helps to greatly reduce the energy consumption of the power supply, thus improving the efficiency and making the smaller InSOP-The 24D package provides greater output power.

The new IC can provide accurate constant voltage/constant current/constant power without peripheral components, and can easily work with the interface IC of the fast charging protocol, so it is suitable for high-efficiency flyback design, for example, USB for mobile devices, set-top boxes, monitors, home appliances, network devices and game consoles-PD and high current Charger/adapter. InnoSwitch3-CP and InnoSwitch3- The power characteristics of EP can be configured by changing hardware parameters, while InnoSwitch- Pro integrates advanced digital interface, which can control constant voltage and constant current setting points, exception handling and safe mode options through software.
